Cricket Report – 07.20.02                                                30 Overs max Per Side

TrendSetters somehow contrived to lose a match they totally dominated until the final half-hour.

Chasing just 155 to beat Newwaves on a decent track at FFCC ground; they were cruising on 116 for 5 with Skipper Kuljit and Raguram going well. But the wicket of Prashanth, caught by Zia off Talpa Sai, proved the catalyst for a feeble collapse by the TrendSetters.

Talpa Sai's leg-spin proved Newwave's killer weapon as he took three wickets.  First, the former Newwaves player Kishore T removed Satya (0) and Rajesh G (30). Later Kishore Struck again in his final over and got Raguram (26) caught behind Zia.

Talpa Sai then walked to the middle to change the entire complexion of the game. When Talpa Sai returned to have Prashanth caught at covers, Newwaves were right back in it, though Trendsetters could still have won, as they needed seven runs off the last over.  Prashanth, mis-timed an off-drive and picked out Kishore T to fall for 11. Yatin Bhuta scratched around for 1 before edging behind an exquisite delivery that pitched in line with the stumps and left the right-hander.

Alas for the Newwaves, Talpa Sai struck with his first ball of the final over, Zia Haque stumped Krishan Prasad for (3), and in the final analysis Inderjeet Singh had to hit the last ball of the match for six.

He failed to score, and Newwaves had won by four runs, which, on the evidence of their batting had seemed unlikely.  Only Raguram (26) and Skipper Kuljit (23) made decent scores, with Talpa Sai collecting three for 16 in five overs.

Zia Haque was most harshly dealt with, conceding 24 off his first three overs

Fittingly, Kishore took three wickets and scoring 37 notout, capping a performance that justly earned him the man-of-the-match award.

"I enjoyed watching Sumanth from the other end," Kishore Thota said upon leaving the field.

"It was one of those great one-day innings."
