CriCKET Report for Aug 17th 2002                            30 over game

Newwaves, easily the best side of the FFFC, were given a fright by Sumeet and Kuljit in a remarkable stand of 79, retrieving the situation from 99 for 10 to 178 for 10. But Newwaves prevailed by 25 runs. This is supposed to be the highest last wicket partnership till today.

Kuljit described Sumeet’s unbeaten 93 runs as the best he's seen by any one. Coming from a man averaging 40 J and over 4088runs to his name, the compliment is nothing if not fulfilling for the stylish player, who crossed 400 runs in his career in the course of the unbeaten 93. Sumeet also walked away with Man-of-the-Match award

If Sumeet's 93  was the showpiece of the day, Chetan’s 49 was the foundation on which Newwaves had its finest innings in the series. Newwaves finished at 203 for 9.

On their way to victory, Newwaves never faltered, gathering a massive 203 after some superb batting by Kishore (foundation guy), Zia, Shiv, Rajesh, Shoban, Kuldeep and our man in form, Chetan. Kuljit was at a loss with his bowlers changing 6 bowlers in 6 overs while chetan was pounding away at the batting end. As a result, despite a courageous partnership for the tenth wicket (Sumeet & Kuljit), the Trendsetters were never in the hunt. Shiv’s batting performance surprised everyone. His score of 22 was the highest score made by him so far playing at FFCC

The Trendsetters intentions were aggressive, but their application flawed.  Zia got the early break dismissing Naren & Praveen. With half the Trendsetters side back in the pavilion at the halfway mark, and only 78 runs on the board, the asking rate pushing close to 8.33 an over and Sai not yet on, the writing was pretty much on the wall. Sai once again created havoc by finishing off with 4/41

Sumeet (93) and Kuljit (21) turned things around in a brave stand of 79, taking the Trendsetters within a hand shake's (or maybe a couple of hand shake’s) distance to glory.
