There was fine batting and fine bowling, but the match will be best remembered for two brilliant catches.
Terrific Diving Catch
by Yatin Bhuta
High light of this match were the two catches taken by Yatin Bhuta. Yatin took
two brilliant catches, First, Giri Babu was sent back as Yatin Bhuta at
mid-wicket pulled off a superb catch when the batsman executed a powerful shot
off Raguram. The fielder jumped high to pluck the ball from the air and
especially the second catch remind us of Jonty Rodhe.... unbelievable....
Kuldeep shaped up to hit the ball, got a top-edge. Kuldeep was astonished to see Yatin taking a one-handed, diving
catch he dived to his right side and took single handed reacting very quickly,
ran from short mid wicket to
forward short leg, The catch was so special that Skipper Kuldeep
couldn't believe it and waited for quite some time before walking back to the
pavilion. Yatin seemed to land and rolled like an Olympic gymnast full of grace
and style. It was a catch Jonty Rhodes would have applauded. Yatin's effort was
an early indication of what people call fire in the belly.
Covering
Ground
Yatin seemed to
have a lot of power in his lithe legs and covered terrific distances with his
dives - he was gazelle like at times. He wanted to contribute badly and did so
in a rousing fashion.
Report:-
Despite a late scare, TSs scored a relatively
easy 9-run victory over the NWs on Saturday. A cool Saturday’s morning heralded the much-anticipated cricketing
clash between the teams of Frankford Fields Cricket Club. After losing
consecutive matches to the New Waves, Trendsetters were poised to win this
match. With most of the players arriving at 7:30am, the field was all set for
another good game of cricket with both captains representing their teams in
full confidence.
Niraj opened the TrendSetters batting with a stellar batting performance contributing 20 runs of 20 balls. The tone for the day was pretty much set by Kuljit who hammered a six off the first ball and scored 23 runs of 18 balls. All around batting strength continued to dominate with Summet, Rajesh and Yatin each scoring 22, 15 and 11. TrendSetters reached 100 in the 15th over but could not continue the fine batting and were all out for 121 in the 20th over.
Chasing 122, NWs did not expect a tough battle - how wrong they were. New Waves opening batting crumbled to the magnificent bowling from Niraj, Raguram, Yatin and Rajesh. With 5 wickets down and a score of 53 runs, Just as many of the few Players present were preparing to go home in mid-afternoon rather than see the NWs make a total disgrace of themselves Sai Petluri arrived and looked as if he might even save the day. Zia and Sai took the innings on their head with fine batting performance. His 47 partnership with Zia Haque was due in large part to Zia's ability to score the occasional quick single to give Sai Petluri every opportunity to pile on the agony. Sai Petluri gave TrendSetters a major scare with an impressive 41, which included three fours. Just when TrendSetters stared to show signs of panic, Zia was dismissed at 30 by a wonderful ball from Rajesh. With 16 runs to score of 12 balls, Sai surrendered to a full toss ball from Niraj scoring 41. New Waves were all out for 112.
A
key component to the Trendsetters win was the fine leadership of Yatin. Apart
from good decision making in the field, he led by example with an awesome catch
of Kuldeep. Yatin Bhuta had a hand in two such dismissals, the critical wickets
of Giri Babu and Skipper Kuldeep.
Niraj who showed his excellence in batting and bowling was awarded the Man of the Match. Fielding is one area where the TSs has displayed a marked improvement.
Some
noteworthy comments:
Uday – “Atleast we did not lose miserably”
Chetan – “I guess my jinx in under 10”
Kuldeep - “ I better stop thinking about Tigers & Shikars and start playing with my right hand” (Just kidding! )
Niraj – “And they still call me a Tapori??????”
As a footnote, Niraj 's bowling was the highlight of the day,
