CriCKET Report for the match played on November 2nd 2002                 25 over game

Trendsetters make another remarkable victory over Newwaves despite missing their top 7 batsmen/bowlers. On a soggy Saturday morning, the Trendsetters took on the New Waves team, and triumphed by 4 wickers in another thrilling match.

Having won the toss, skipper Kuldeep elected to bat. The opening pair of Kishore and Uday kept the scoreboard moving with quick singles and two’s. Just when Kishore was settling down, he was caught behind off Kuljit’s bowling scoring 17 runs of 23 balls.

Giribabu was the next in the line up and took advantage of the weak bowling line up hammering boundaries all over the field. Uday retired giving way to captain Kuldeep who continued to slaughter the Trendsetters bowling with fours and a seamless 6. Giribabu, accompanied by

Kuldeep compiled an entertaining stand of 45 in just 5 overs, before Kuldeep was well-stumped by a sharp piece of work from ‘keeper Kuljit. The run-rate slowed down when Giribabu was dismissed by Mani for 27.

Shoban was next in the line up and was run out by a direct throw from Gautham. Sai Petluri and Zia maintained the run-rate with quick singles and two’s and newwaves reached 100 in 20 overs. Attempting a quick single off the last ball of the over, Zia was dismissed by Kuljit due to Obstruction in the Field run-out decision.

Out Obstructing the field

Either batsman is out Obstructing the field if he wilfully obstructs or distracts the opposing side by word or action.

The new waves innings closed on 118 in 24.5 overs.

After a short break, Trendsetters challenged by a good score opened with Sumeet and Rajesh. Trendsetter’s reply got off to a slow start with Uday and Kishore bowling accurate first spells. Sumeet batted cautiously but maintained a steady run rate of around 4 runs an over. Rajesh in

watchful style provided Sumeet with the steady partner he needed to guide the team reaching 50 in 12 overs.  While the steady diet of singles and two’s kept the score ticking over, the dynamic duo kept punishing every lose ball to the boundary. Newwaves tried their very best for a break but all they got in return were magnificent boundaries.

Rajesh R who for a moment was caught at the boundary by an excellent catch from Kuldeep dived on the field but crossed the boundary. Smelling an easy victory, Rajesh retired giving way to newcomer Piyush. Giribabu stunned everyone with an amazingly difficult one-handed diving catch at short midwicket dismissing newcomer Piyush for 6 runs. Mani walked in while Trendsetters reached 100 in 20 overs matching Newwaves run-rate. Sumeet reached 50 and threatened to win the match single-handedly, but was stumped by Uday off Sai Petluri excellent bowling. Guatham new comer was bowled by a straight delivery from Uday for 1. With 3 runs to win in 2 overs, Newwaves preferred to close the game with extras and Trendsetters obliged.

Sumeet earned himself the ‘Man of the Match’ award, scoring 56 and taking one wicket. However Trendsetters win would not be possible without an excellent all round performance from Rajesh who in my opinion should share the ‘Man of the Match’ award. You better watch out for all wickets including yours when this dude is bowling.

Trendsetters completed another memorable victory despite weak bowling line up. Looks like Newwaves missed their key inspiration player ‘Baba’ Chandru, who sipped bit too much of fine red wine the night before (No nagamani ENJOY!!!!!!!!!).

q      Zia Haque became the first batsman to be dismissed obstructing the field at FFCC. After guiding the ball to backward square leg. Uday at non strikers end wanted to take a run but keeper Kuljit fielded the ball and threw the ball at non strikers end, Uday raised his bat high in the air to stop/obstruct the throw and in the process prevented the fielder Mani G from collecting the ball for an easy run out chance.

Some comments:

Sumeet: Arey, common man! This is too much.

Zia: Arey yaar, yeh Mani mujeh kyo nahi blowing daltha…

Mani: Damn guys, common stop the boundary.

Uday: Nice to get 3 lives every game.

Shoban: I don’t run that fast, yet get run-out all the time. Wonder why?

Sai Petluri: -I can’t believe its not butter. I mean I cant believe how come TS scored the runs. Miracles do happen
