CriCKET Report for the match played on November 9th 2002                  30 over game

NewWaves will have to be very disappointed with their batting this afternoon, all out for 33 in just 18.4 overs. Which equals the previous 33
run record lowest total scored by TrendSetters in July 2001

The pitch could not be blamed for this collapse with no ball doing anything out of the ordinary, plain and simple it was just good bowling, good
catching, and bad batting. TrendSetters can now look forward to the next match on Nov 16th and hopefully a stronger showing by Newwaves so
as to make an interesting game.

It was one of the best days to play cricket, especially in early November time. Light cloud with sun breaking in and flooding golden light on the

picturesque ground. The newly pitch (just 1 game older) was much drier and was promising good cricket without doubt.

The play began late at around 9:05 due to some lazy cricketers enjoying early morning sleep. It was painful though for some players who

arrived at 7:30 & 8am. Deputy Kuljit won the toss and he elected to bat first. There were injury concerns to both teams. Giri Babu (Knee) and

Yatin Bhuta (Back pain) were doubtful starter but the early morning fitness test cleared them both.

Trend Setters started their inning with yet again new combination of openers in Piyush and experienced Sumanth. On the other end, all rounder

Sai Petluri decided to bowl medium fast bowling instead of his gentle off spin and he showed equal amount of skill. Piyush was caught by

“Tiger” Chandru off the 3rd ball with Duck before TS had any run on the board.

Last match hero Rajesh joined Sumanth and showed some glimps of his form by finding gaps and rotating strikes, but before they could make a

good partnership, Sumanth was Caught by Giri at first slip off Sai Petluri for 4. Harish Baddam joined Rajesh and the runs started coming at

faster pace. Harish Baddam (48, 65 deliveries, 5 fours) made his highest score at FFCC. From the fourth delivery he faced, which was

dispatched to the cover fence, he missed no opportunity offered. Again, before this two make a good partnership, Rajesh was caught by

Kuldeep off Giri for 11 and the TS’s hope of watching another heroic inning from Rajesh was drained. Kuljit joined Baddam and they both built

the best partnership of the inning. Kuljit was aggressive as ever but with some rare off side shots made him look more classy than usual. Mean

time, Baddam was showing all his class with flurries of shots on off side. When these two were looking dangerous, Kuljit was run out by

Gautham/Shiv. Niraj joined Baddam and before he got a close look at pitch which was keeping odd ball very low, he tried ambitious shots on

accurate Giri and gave a skier which was held by Shiv running to his right. Gautham was bowled by Zia and Yatin was again unlucky to be run out

as Baddam misjudged the single. But he made up for his mistake, scoring 1s and 2s and reaching the best score of his career. The last laugh was

though on Sai Petluri’s face as he put a trap for Baddam in form of Giri at slip and bowled an accurate line, lifting ball and Baddam gave a

simple catch to Giri and missed the well deserved half century by just 2 runs. There were about 5 overs left and score of 103 was very ordinary

for the NW considering their form this year.

NW started their inning with Zia and Shiv. TS were having doubts about Yatin’s fitness and they decided to try one over from him to see how he

bowls. But it seems the injury came for good for Yatin as he started with short runup and considerably bowling slow but accurate. With no

hurry to get 104 runs in 30 overs, it looked like NW were just taking easy. But it was actually the great line and length of Yatin and Rajesh that

made all the difference. With Newwaves needing to score 104 runs to win, the TrendSetters bowlers ripped through the top order. Rajesh was

on full fire, bowling with maximum speed and with three slips and a short thirdman, he was difficult to play. The hard work of Rajesh paid off

when Shiv was bowled by Rajesh for duck. Wicket keeper Kuljit dropped Zia in Yatin’s first over, but with Yatins teasing line and length, he

never really settled, and soon gave the wicket keeper a second catch.  Zia was caught by great keeping work by Kuljit. Within 28 balls, both Zia

Haque (2) and Shiv (0) were left brooding in the dressing room.

More importantly, the scoring rate was seized as NW were 7 for 2 wickets in 7 overs. Yatin decided to give rest to Rajesh and saved his quota

for strong batting line of NW at latter stage and tossed the ball to Niraj. With a tradition of taking wickets on full toss, Niraj got Kuldeep

caught on a full toss by Kuljit. It was an outstanding catch by the Kuljit; keeping on the offside he ran towards leg and took a diving catch at

short square leg. The run rate started going down even further even though Giri Babu was on other end. Niraj was joined by Baddam in bowling

and he too was bowling on teasing line. With Chetan and Sai Petluri still remaining and target being so low, the match was still evenly poised,

but then came Baddam’s over in which he bowled Tiger and very next bowl had Chetan edging to keeper Kuljit. This was a big blow to NW.

They never recovered from that point. Sai Petluri was out caught by Rajesh off Niraj again on a full toss!!. Giri held the inning together for

some time. Yatin brought Rajesh back and his pace and line frustrated Giri. He finally was caught by Sai Petluri fielding at first slip and with

everyone’s surprise, NWs were all out for 33 runs in 18.4 over. The only batsman to reach double figures was Giri Babu  (15) and not to forget

Mr. extra – 12!!.

Man of the match was without doubt – Baddam for his 48 and 2 wickets. The best bowlers – pick yourself!!!!!!!!!!!

(1)   Niraj 5-3-3-2 (2W)

(2)   Rajesh 4.4-2-6-2(1w) Rajesh R, bowling with pace and venom, had figures of 2 for 4.

(3)   Yatin 4-1-4-1

Hope you enjoyed the game. Hope to see you all next Saturday Nov 16th for another exciting game. Waiting….

For a side with all regular players and a belief they would beat anyone, there were rude awakenings at the end of the game.

Newwaves were well beaten in our last three games by strong and well-organized TrendSetters teams.

Comments:

Newwaves captain, Kuldeep, called it a "freak result" and hoped that his side could quickly flush today's disturbing events out of their system by

next Saturday

When interviewed afterwards, TrendSetters standing Captain Kuljit, he was his normal modest self, albeit with a brighter twinkle in the eye:

“We have played as a team throughout and that is why we have won the last three games. It has been fantastic and I would like to thank all the

players for being so supportive.”

Yatin Bhuta J Before this awesome display, TrendSetters’s were accused of lacking the killer instinct. They could now be charged with

overkill!

Piyush:-  The catch to dismiss Kuldeep was one of the best you are likely to see and the TrendSetter ground fielding was excellent in

supporting the bowling, as was the wicket keeping of Kuljit-Singh.

The key to this TrendSetters team has been the togetherness. The team plays together, and enjoys each other’s company. They consider

themselves, not individuals, but part of a whole. It is a state that Kuldeep would dearly love to re-create.
