NewWaves lose even after scoring a challenging 194 while TrendSetters clinch the match.
08 July 2001 (Scorecard)
NewWaves performed to its full potential piling up a challenging total of 194 runs. It was the highest total of the present series after TrendSetters's 184 at Frankford, on June 24th.
Batting first NewWaves was able to pile up an impressive total of 194 runs. Prasad S caught opener Kishore brilliantly at the slips scoring only 10 runs.
The batsmen that followed contributed a reasonable share to the total. Sumeet played a dashing innings of 29, while Uday (22) and Jagdish (27) were the other major scorers. But for the countless unpardonable fielding lapses, the total of 194 runs was sufficient for NewWaves to win the match.
There were couple of poor umpiring decisions. Subbu was given out of a no ball. Square leg umpire should have called the no ball. Well all this is a part of the game. We should be careful in future before raising the finger.
Satish Arravalli was the most successful bowler to claim 4 wickets of 25 runs. His victims were (Sanjay Singhvi, Harish Vajja, Anil Yerram, Sumeet). What can I say about Satish Arravalli!. This man is destined to be one of the great players for TrendSetters. He has a good technique, is brilliant in bowling and above all, scores his runs at a rapid rate. I was rattled by Satish 's spin: Says Anil Yerram
TrendSetters Captain dropped Mohammad Noman down from the opener's role and asked Satya Modugula to open the innings with Praveen Singh. Though the star opener Praveen Singh departed after scoring only 5 runs, pinch hitter Satya Modugula took the mantle of building up the innings. He played a highly enterprising innings of 28 runs with the help of 5 fours. While Satya was on a run-making spree, Mohammad Noman (74*) gave him a commendable stand. The way Satya Modugula and Mohammad Noman batted and thrashed the NewWaves bowling all over the ground left no doubts about their intentions to grab the victory.
The day clearly belonged to the premier batsman, Mohammad Noman. He made 74* runs decorating his score with 9 classy strokes past the ropes and two huge sixes. The stream of fours going past the fielders too often in the game was an awe-inspiring exhibition of masterly stroke play on one side and a disappointing display of fielding on the other. It was an amazing display of power hitting, with the sequence reading as 4,4,1,4,4,1,1,4. It was all Mohammad in full flow. "It was a lot of fun. It was one of those hands when you get into a groove and everything seems to click. Kuljit, the captain did not waste much time in declaring Mohammad as the Man of the Match.
The events of the first 10 overs made us wonder if perhaps the promise held out by the bowlers actually did more harm than good. NewWaves bowlers conceded a lot of boundaries but their spirit never flagged. TrendSetters batsmen scored at a rapid rate. The fifty came in just 7 overs, the poor ground fielding helped the scoreboard to move at jet speed bringing on 100 of the innings in 14 overs. The pressure finally got to the NewWaves fielders. The 150 came up in the 22nd over; Raguram (1) lasted only for three balls, before he was bowled by Kuldeep-Singh Nijjar.
Having paid a heavy price for the three run-outs in the Sundays match against TrendSetters, the NewWavers team on Saturday will have an extensive session of running between the wickets ahead of the match at Frankford Fields on Sunday July15th
Captain Kuldeep Singh Nijjar has decided to take his team for training.
A training weekend will be held on 13-14 July for Newwaves team. The session involves fitness work, basic fielding exercises and individual running between the wickets, at the same time providing the opportunity for the youngsters to improve their skills in an enjoyable atmosphere. Oh Boy! Something drastic may have to be done if the fate of NewWaves is ever to change.
To compete with TrendSetters, NewWave's needed to play to their full potential; still the best were unable to lift the game. The TrendSetters deserve kudos for such a brilliant performance. A victory target of 194 runs against a high quality bowling attack was not an easy one.
Comments from Sanjay:- "I am disappointed to lose badly but you have to give credit to the TrendSetters. They play cricket exactly as it is supposed to be played. They are a very fine side and we have to learn from them”
Comments from Kuljit:- We can play better, but overall I'm pretty pleased." "Well, they're (NewWaves) not as good a side, but they can do it. They need a bit of luck (Sanjays Trip to the Radha Krishan Temple this Saturday might bring some luck), to be on top of their form, as shrewd as they can be. "It has been fantastic to have two games of 180-plus on such good pitches and it is no COINCIDENCE that we have won them both." " Captain Kuljit said that he has not thought about a specific gameplan for the upcoming game on July15th as he is first focusing on each player before formulating a strategy.
TrendSetters Captain has suggested that NewWaves will need to be more aggressive against Satish. "They have to start playing positively rather than just padding up to him. "They have to be more aggressive when they are facing him and try and play shots rather than just coming forward and sticking the bat behind the legs,"
Highlights:-
1) TrendSetters Mohammad Noman (74*) was the highest by any batsman at Frandford Fields.
2) Mohammad Noman (74*) became first TrendSetters batsman to carry his bat through the completed innings.
3) It was nice to have some new players in each side
4) I am losing concentration now and then, says to most enthusiastic player Sai Kumar Amuluru.
After completing their highly successful match with NewWaves, it will be TrendSetters who will be celebrating this whole week. The next game will be played on July 15 same venue Frankford Fields at 6:30 am. Toss will play a vital role in July 15th match.
