Harish Vajja pummels TrendSetters into Submission

Sanjay Singhvi – 3rd Sep 2001  (Scorecard)

Except for the toss, nothing went right for Kuljit Singh and his team on a day when they would have hoped to square the Labor Day series.

Once upon a time, it was the norm that a Trend Setter team would pose all kinds of headaches for New Waves. Ferocious pace bowling; dazzling attacking batting; wizardry in the field: all were expected, all were produced. But not any more.

New Waves, batting first, had totalled 156 for 7 in 25 overs. Harish Vajja top-scored for the New Waves with 36, well supported by captain Kuldeep Singh Nijjar who made 18 , Uday with 21 and Sanjay Singhvi with an unbeaten 27. Trendsetters hit 122 in 23 overs.

Harish Vajja got the New Waves reply going with some lusty blows, and Sanjay Singhvi soon began to find his form, hitting some massive fours. Harish generally caught the eye, though, playing his strokes with gay abandon, and finished as top scorer with 36 runs (two sixes, 3 fours), with Sanjay unbeaten on 27(5 fours).  After Satish started bowling Kuldeep Singh saw Hunger in Jagdish eyes and so he sent Jagdish to play Satish and the rest everyone knows. Upendra and Praveen both missed many catches. Only Upendra was able to keep the score within reasonable bounds as the trendsetter’s bowlers appeared as outclassed as their batsmen. They could and should have done much better, but it wasn't easy to believe on this showing.

"The boys were unbelievable today and I couldn't have asked for anything better," beamed Kuldeep Singh Nijjar.

"The bowlers didn’t gave us a very good start so that it was uncomfortable for us going in to bat and we couldn’t finish it off well; it was a great day altogether for New

Waves Team” beamed Kuljit Singh Nijjar .

This was not a game with a sting in the tail; it never caused the biting of nails; it wasn't even a match of two halves. But, while the clichés weren't applicable and the

excitement of a close finish was never on the cards, there was more than enough to satisfy a partisan, noisy and seemingly ever-building confidence among players at

 Frankford Field Cricket Club.

Man of the Match :  Harish Vajja
