NewWaves
suffered a humiliating defeat by 2 wickets.
Kuljit-Singh - 29 July 2001 (Scorecard)
Been busy and
haven't had time to post, but I made the time tonight. Hope you enjoy!!!
Trendsetters won the toss again and elected to
field first.
NewWaves batsmen put up a below par performance with the bat and were bowled out for just 144. The team was out for a petty 144 runs in 27.3 overs. Not being able to play the full quota of 30 overs in such a crucial match was perhaps the worst example of casual and careless batting. NewWaves lacked any sign of a killer instinct both in batting and bowling, the TrendSetters proved to be a thoroughly professional outfit. They had planned to fight the battle with meticulous care and executed their plan brilliantly.
The temperature here was 24 degrees during the day and there
were clouds in the sky. We were so lucky to have this weather.
I don't really accept the statement
that the TrendSetters team is inconsistent; The batting line-up looks quite formidable. Kuljit-Singh, the Trendsetters captain was delighted:
"The quality of the play that we saw today was a bit of a surprise
considering that we didn’t have two key players .
1)
JSanjay won the JCricketfare Award for best Jducks
for his performance
2)
Sanjay also missed the
opportunity to write the report for the last match that they had won.
Hello ALL,
SOrry i couldn't send the Match Report for the Last Match for
the following 2 reasons.
1. Kuljit haven't send me the scorecard as he's the one who
has it. (Come on Sanjay what a lame excuse!!!)
2. I will write the Report for both the match together as we
will win the match this sunday (July29th) also!!!! (Sorry Sanjay your dream
didn’t come true , we all request you to stop day dreaming) (He He He He Hee)
3)
Both the teams were playing
without their key players. For TrendSetters Blaster Mohammad Noman & Satish
Arravalli were absent. For NewWaves Captain
Kuldeep, Kishore and last weeks Star Player Subbarao Chitra were absent.
4)
The record now reads: NewWaves
6, TrendSetters 4, abandoned 0.
5) Raguram was the pick of the seamers, conceding just 18 runs
from 4.3 overs. He grabbed three wickets too:
6) New
Waves bowling

7) Special NO ball was given by Umpire Uday P. Harish Baddam
was caught distracting the batsman while Upendra was bowling.
8) XYZ’s dismissal suggested that it might not have been a fair
decision after all. Guys we have to be active while umpiring.
Sai Amuluru scored 1 run from the
very first ball he faced, but that was all he could make. Sanjays sharp throw
from the point let Sai watch his bails whipped off.
Zia Haque made 47, Sumeet 31, and
Prasad S made 12. The rest of the
batting efforts suggested a telephone number! All getting gout in single
digits!
After Harish V got out, Sanjay
Singhvi was the new batsman. He has had a couple of ducks going into this
match; I meant to say that he didn’t score in his last two matches. At the crease, he looked laboured,
often tired. Sanjay Singhvi' failed again,
making a Duck.
Can it
really be true that Sanjay is not sure about what is expected of him in One-Day
cricket? If it is indeed so, then the future of NewWaves cricket is not in good
hands. Playing over 15 limited over matches, you are still not sure of
your role, then there certainly is cause for serious concern. Batting in almost
all the matches however, averaging just 4 in 10 innings. Sanjay is a big let
down to the NewWaves team. Just once has Sanjay reached two figures batting for
the NewWaves.
Sanjay didn’t carry his poor
batting form onto the field. He took a
spectacular catch at point and as well a sharp throw from him conceded Sai’s
Wicket
Trendsetters had a shocking start; they found themselves in big trouble loosing two early
wickets down after two overs.
Krishna
Prasad had trouble facing the pace of Uday; He sent back the opener K.P for a
duck off his very first over. K.P shuffled across, played down the wrong line
and was clean bowled with Trendsetters yet to score a run. Chetan Jaitly was
the second man to be out, giving an easy catch to Jagdish off the bowling of
Anil.
But TSetter’s managed a
revival with Kuljit and Vinod forgiving a promising partnership. Captain heaved
straight over mid-wicket for a mighty six off the very first delivery of Zia
Haque. They quickly saw Tsetter’s beyond 50 with a plethora of boundaries until
Vinods mistimed drive flicked a Jagdish’s delivery on to his stumps after
scoring 14. The middle order
finally kicked into life and the TrendSetters rattled up the target 145 runs in
24 overs
Captain Kuljit provided most of the entertainment, but the day really belonged to the, Star Opener Praveen Singh, Satya Modugula and Nareen T.
That pace was maintained
thereafter despite the loss of Captain and Vinod Bajurri in the tenth over.
Praveen Singh joined Satya Modugula, Nareen T and the trio added 59 runs before
Anil Yerram athletically caught Praveen Singh at short leg. Praveen and Nareen
hit 3 muscular fours and Nareen lofted a massive six towards Deep Square leg.
Thereafter
TrendSetters rarely looked like failing to reach a target of 145 - Raguram D
(06) stayed with Nareen T (21) until victory was completed without pressure and
with more than six overs to spare.
NewWaves
lack the 'killer instinct'?
What does such a repeat of
debacle indicate? The team is not deficient of talent or prowess in batting or
bowling. Fielding is poor but it only makes a marginal difference. The most important, needing immediate
attention is not being mentally tough and the lack of a killer instinct. Though
it needs definite improvement, the weakness did not prevent the team from
winning. By my understanding of the game, the reasons are psychological. The
team lacks mental strength to fight and win. Overpowered by reputations of its
opponents, it succumbs to pressure.
Few
words of advice,
NewWaves believes a lesson can
be learnt from the manner in which TrendSetters approach their game. They are
always aggressive, looking to take the initiative from teams. That's how we
have to go about our job, but with a little caution.
There is a
general belief that NewWaves leave too much to fate. Though the part played by
'lady luck' in victories and defeats cannot be denied, it does not mean that
the players should not apply themselves correctly and put in their best. Luck has
its own mood and should better be left at that.
After seeing his
side enjoy by far the best of the Sunday’s play against NewWaves at Frankford
Fields today Captain Kuljit said: "We put up a good performance out there,
and we looked a very good side. All of our bowlers used the conditions well.
All credit to Kuljit and his team."
Coming Sunday’s game is going to
be challenging, but we must realise that we have players in our side who are
capable of doing the job, Kuljit said.
As long as each player plays his
role in the side, I can see us coming out on top. He knows what is required to
gain success. We have to be aggressive and play positively, he said.
